WHAT IS PEELS?
Generally, PEEL is a medieval small massive fortified tower along the Scottish-English border -- called also peel tower. In our context, PEELS is the Market Validation of the Pan-European ELectronic Safe.
In a nutshell, PEELS is
- Pan-European ELectronic Safe Project, which validates a Digital Archiving Service for electronic documents in four EU member states.
- The technology for the service already exists and the service model that is most appropriate to the customer will be validated.
- Funded by private companies, one public entity and the EU eTEN programme. The project budget is € 1.36 Million of which € 0.68 Million is EU Commission funding.
- Validation Project runs for 13 months and will end in April 2005, thereafter participants aim to start an estimated € 17 Million Initial Market Deployment project for implementing a Trans-European Digital Archiving Service.
The main objective of the PEELS project is to validate a web-based, digital archiving service, enabling easy and secure archiving of digital documents in the European Union member states.
